January 4th 2019 Back to the Grind

This is my first post of the New Year so let me start by saying Happy New Year. If you listened to episode 37 of our podcast, then you know I hate New Year’s Resolutions. The reason I bring this up is because as of right I am starting the new year on the “Grind”. What is the “Grind” and why am I on it? Let’s find out.

Like always you don’t have to read until the end to find out the answer so here it is…. The “Grind” is another way to say the hard working phase. This term is actually popularized by Gary Vee (Gary Vaynerchuck) and I love using it because it sounds cool. So am I on the grind because of the New Year? Of course not but it’s a pretty interesting story. You know how most people say there is no such thing as good luck and it’s only the result of you putting in the work. Sounds like BS and I did not believe this saying either until it happened. So for the past couple of weeks, I started working on my new book and a couple of other things. Since I will be losing about forty percent of my income when I have my shoulder operation, I need to generate additional income. Back when I walked out of a good paying job because of my morals, I made ends meet by taking odd jobs and by writing my first book. Now that I’m writing my second book, one of the odd jobs reached out to me. The odd job is actually a person who owns a business who wants me to consult for them and also work as an assistant of sorts. I know exactly what you’re thinking, “writing a book and consulting on a business a grind?”

So what does my grind actually consist of? Writing a book, blogging, podcasting, consulting and working my regular job. All this while in pain and on medication. Sounds like I’m perfect but nope still adjusting to this crazy schedule. I have to wake up early now because Jocko says it will make me more productive. I used to wake up between 9 am and 10 am depending on my job schedule, but can’t do that anymore. I’m waking up at 6 am now which may not seem early to many of you reading this but I’m the type of person who falls asleep at 3 am. I’m also trying my best to cut sugar out of my diet and watch what I eat which means my body is confused. How is it confused? My body is in withdrawal from the omission of sugar and also needs to adapt to my new sleep schedule which means no energy. Before you say that I’m changing what I eat because of the new year let me stop you because I’m just following what the doctor told me to do. The whole sleep thing has been a work in progress for some time also. So now you know the reason why I need to grind (40% less income) and what my grind is, however, do you know why I wrote this post?

Honestly, I have no real reason why I wrote this post. But you can use this post as motivation. If someone who is in pain (physical) every day can grind why can’t you. My content might not be as popular as some other content producers but through it, I can convey my feelings, which is why I’m still producing content. I produce content not to make money but to express myself. To make money I do my regular job and now that I’m losing that chunk of money I’m grinding again. See I’ve noticed that as humans we don’t act unless there is an obstacle. Why read a book or take a course if we can just watch tv all day? I’ve only grinded when my finances have been heavily impacted and that sucked. Don’t be like me and wait until you are strapped for cash before grinding and achieving your dreams. SO get out there and Make it Happen.
