September 1st 2020, Rebranding Yourself

Joshes and Joshettes, today I want to talk about something that no one ever talks about. Is it time to give up on your original plans and try something new? Have you been trying to solve problem A, but you would have been better solving problem C? Is it time to rebrand yourself?

No one wants to see their business or dreams crash and burn but it can happen. I'm not telling you to give up on your dream, I'm just saying to try to rethink your course of action attack your goal a different way. Have you ever heard of a brand named Coca Cola, well it wasn't originally advertised as the beloved soft drink. Coke started as snake oil that promised to cure ailments and it didn't sell much. Rebranding doesn't only work for failing products, have you ever heard of an actor named Kevin James? The male lead from "King of Queens", has taken it upon himself to put out YouTube videos during the pandemic. Even if you don't find him funny, he's thinking outside the box and putting out content that is like no other. Rebranding can even get you an early foothold in a new market like it did for Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith started as a director but was an early pioneer of podcasting. Because he rebranded himself early on he can live off of his podcast earnings rather than his movie earnings (which haven't been much these past couple of years).

So, what does any of this have to do with you or me? Have you hit all your goals? Are you happy with where you are today? We all know the definition of insanity, so why not look at trying something new AKA rebranding. Back when Kevin Hart was first doing stand up, he went under the name Lil Kev and found little to no fame. After listening to advice from an older comedian he decided to rebrand himself and tell stories of his life on stage. He used the same vehicle but he used a different road. Now let me apply today's post to my life and my job. I recently found out that everyone who was in my training class at my job is gone (except one person). This job is hard and not for everyone but I realized that it's not my vehicle for my success. I decided to do what an old coworker of mine did, he focus on his side hustles and just kept his 9 to 5 for the benefits. I'm just going to save and invest as much money as possible and just do my best until a new opportunity arises.

Now let's focus on you the reader, how can you know if it's time to rebrand or how to rebrand. You can always rebrand and try a new approach, just look at Colonel Sanders he was able to rebrand in his sixties. As long as you have some income coming in what's the harm of trying a new approach. Go learn a new skill that can help you, we have tools like Skillshare and YouTube at our disposal. If you are in sales then try learning about your competition and using that knowledge to boost your sales. If you want to be a motivational speaker instead of putting out long videos on YouTube put out small videos on Instagram. Be different from the norm and find a path that is less walked. Just do me one favor and make it happen.
