Episode 109 - Community
Going through life alone makes everything harder.
In this episode of The Books By Josh Audio Immersion, I talk about community and why the people we surround ourselves with can have a bigger impact on our lives than we sometimes realize.
After attending Port Chester's Unity Day, I started thinking about the different communities I've been part of throughout my life and the small community I've managed to build through my books, this podcast, and BooksByJosh.com. I talk about growing up in a large family, hearing from readers and listeners, and why those interactions continue to motivate me even though I make nothing directly from this podcast or my website.
I also get into mentorship, networking, friendships, and the idea that the people around us can either help pull us toward the person we're trying to become or hold us back. That doesn't mean finding successful people and simply taking from them. A real community has to be give and take, where everyone brings something to the table while also knowing when to listen, when to offer advice, and when someone just needs a person to vent to.
I also reflect on how communities naturally change over time. Friends drift apart, people move in different directions, and the circle you have today might look completely different five or ten years from now. After nearly two decades of writing, almost a decade of podcasting, and years of trying to build something online, I've learned how difficult it can be to continue when the results don't come right away.
Whether you're a writer, entrepreneur, creator, trying to get in shape, building a business, or simply working toward something that takes years instead of weeks, this episode is about why having the right people around you matters.
You might have to walk your own path, but that doesn't mean you have to walk it alone.
