Episode 41 - The Fold 8 Made Me Yawn

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra—and despite being a longtime Fold user, I’m struggling to find a reason to upgrade.

In Episode 41 of Tek With Josh, I break down Samsung’s newest foldables, including their rising prices, new passport-style design, unchanged camera hardware, silicon-carbon batteries, faster charging, and supposedly crease-free displays. The Fold 8 Ultra may be Samsung’s most expensive and refined foldable yet, but at more than $2,000, refinement alone is not enough.

Samsung finally increased the battery capacity and charging speeds, but competitors are already offering larger batteries, faster charging, better cameras, and more ambitious hardware. Meanwhile, several of Samsung’s headline features feel like recycled software tricks rather than meaningful innovation.

For owners of older Fold models, the new lineup may be worth considering. For anyone already using the Fold 6 or Fold 7, however, this feels less like a major upgrade and more like buying the same phone twice.

Samsung made the Fold thinner, brighter, faster, and potentially crease-free—but did it make it exciting? Not for me.
