Episode 25 -The Crazy Genius Composer Returns
For Episode 25 of Manga With Josh, I’m returning to a series I’ve already recommended before: The Crazy Genius Composer Returns, also known as Genius LOUT Composer Returns. I don’t usually come back and recommend the same manhwa twice, but this is one of those series that has continued giving me reasons to talk about it.
At its core, this is a regression story about a successful composer who gets another chance at life after ending up rich, famous, and completely alone. He goes back to the past with the opportunity to change the relationships he lost, especially with his family, while still pursuing the thing that matters most to him: making music. What separates it from the hundreds of other regression stories I’ve read is that he isn’t a hunter, fighter, idol, or singer trying to become famous. He is the person behind the music, writing songs, producing tracks, working in recording studios, and trying to create number-one hits.
That music-industry angle is a huge part of why I enjoy the series, but the family side gives it the heart it needs. His relationship with his father, his attempts to reconnect with the people around him, and the fact that he is still the same obsessive composer who will happily spend twelve or twenty hours inside a studio make him entertaining to follow. He is trying to become a better person, but the story doesn’t suddenly turn him into somebody completely different.
There is also plenty of comedy mixed into everything, including his decision to hide his identity during public appearances by wearing a motorcycle helmet with flames on it because he doesn’t want his face to be the reason people listen to his music. Little things like that help the series stand out while still letting it spend a surprising amount of time exploring the business and production side of the Korean music industry.
If you’re looking for battles, action, or romance, this probably isn’t the manhwa for you. But if you enjoy regression stories, music, business-focused manhwa, or simply want something different from the usual power fantasy, The Crazy Genius Composer Returns is an easy series for me to recommend. With around 100 manhwa chapters available and a much longer novel behind it, there is also plenty to read if it hooks you.
