Episode 45 - Microsoft and Apple October Announcements

October has brought some interesting announcements from Microsoft and Apple, but are these new products actually worth getting excited about?

In Episode 45 of Tek With Josh, I break down Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra, including its magnetic USB-C connection, NVIDIA-powered hardware, and how it stacks up against Apple's MacBook lineup. The magnetic port is getting plenty of attention, but its limitations raise some questions about whether it's really better than MagSafe and Thunderbolt.

On Apple's side, there's a new wave of smart-home hardware, including the Home display and HomePod mini 2, both bringing Siri AI deeper into the Apple ecosystem. I discuss what makes these devices interesting, who they're really designed for, and why existing hardware might already accomplish much of the same thing.

Then there's the long-awaited fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. With faster performance, improved connectivity, and expanded HomePod support, it delivers some welcome upgrades. But at $299, is Apple asking too much for what ultimately feels like a specification refresh?

I also touch on rumors surrounding Apple's upcoming MacBook announcements, why I'm still not convinced touchscreen laptops are necessary, and my early impressions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

New hardware, bigger prices, and plenty of AI—but how much of it actually improves the experience?

That's what we're discussing in Episode 45 of Tek With Josh.
