January 15th 2020, My Goals For 2020

Joshes and Joshettes, in my last post I talked about setting some goals for the new year. This is the long-awaited 2020 goal post. Was it worth the wait? I can honestly say that it was and I'll go into more detail in the following paragraph.

On January 6th of this year, I started a new job and even though the hourly pay rate is low, the income potential is high. This job offers uncapped commission and even though I haven't seen the actual structure, I know how much the average representative makes in this position. How? I've asked a bunch of employees who have tenure in the position. The general consensus is an average rep in this position makes on average seventy to eighty thousand dollars a year. So the reason I held off on this post is that I wanted to invest in real estate and what I can afford to buy is dependent on how much I make. My goal for this year is to purchase my first investment property, which will be either a three-family home or a building with four or more units. The reason I'm not sure which one I want to purchase is that a building with four or more units is considered a commercial property. My new employer offers a legal plan that covers all the legal fees and paperwork for non-commercial investments. So if I choose to go with a commercial property, I would need to provide my own lawyer. There's a whole list of pros and cons for both types of properties but I'm not going to stress it right now. First I need to have enough money to cover the down payment, which is why I have an income goal for my new job. I want to make a hundred thousand through my job this year. If I can earn this amount, I might get offered a position in the level two team (better commission).

That's my job goal, but what are my goals to better myself for this year? The first thing I need to do is read, books are great inexpensive tools that help us learn. By the end of this year, I want to have read fifty books. I'm not talking about books of fiction but rather works of nonfiction such as business books, financial books, self-help books, and financial books. Towards the end of last year, I was looking into going back to college and finishing my degree. To my horror, my transcript showed a GPA of .67 and that put me off the idea. Even though my career path doesn't require a degree, I plan on finishing mine because of principle. I want to give back to the community that I grew up in by coming by and speaking to the students. These kids need to hear that where you come from doesn't affect who you become and I need to practice what I preach. Because of how low my GPA is, I need to speak to the bursar and work out an arrangement. I might have to take only one course to start just so that I can show my commitment. The final way I can better myself this year is to work on my health. If you've seen any of my videos or photos, then you know I'm a big guy. Like many others, I need to lose weight and unlike others, I need to regain strength in my right shoulder and neck. Since my injury, I haven't worked out in the gym because of legal reason but now that my case is closed, I can start going to the gym.

With those two categories out of the way, let's talk about the goal that affects YOU the readers, my goals for content production. I plan on writing more than I have in the past year and a half, I want to write like I did when I first started this site. I used to post three to five times a week and although an average blog post takes me an hour to an hour and a half, I want to write. Because of my surgery, 2019 was a horrible year for content. I was depressed and I had no desire to produce content. Now that I've returned to the workforce (and I don't hate my job), I want to write. If you never experienced depression, it's hard to describe but it's almost like I was trapped in a box but now the box has been opened. If you were to ask my trainer or my coworkers, they will tell you I haven't shut up once during this week and a half of training. I'm honestly just happy to have coworkers and a purpose again. I now jump out of bed each day ready to take on any challenge even though my job is dealing with people who are upset and cursing at me. With that out of the way, I'm planning on bringing back the weekly podcast episodes and maybe even starting a tech podcast for our sister site. I want to finish the book I'm currently working on which has over twenty thousand words already written. That's why I've been getting to work an hour early each day so that I can work on content from my iPad.

See if I wrote this post the day before I started my job, it would have been boring and short. I was going to re-upload a list of goals I made in August of last year. I never shared any of those goals with anyone so I had no one to hold me accountable. Even though those goals were realistic and attainable, I never followed through. My heart wasn't in it but now I'm posting it here and making it public. I also have certain people in my personal life holding me accountable for my goals. If I don't start getting serious about my life, then I'm going to end up in the same place year after year. It's up to me to make a change.
